Bridging from genome to function

One 3 years Ph.D. Fellowship supported by the European Commission is available starting on January 2006 with the Medical Engineering Group ( http://www.ing.hb.se/research/medical-en.php )at the University College of Borås under the supervision of Prof. Kaj Lindecrantz. The Ph.D. student will be registered at Chalmers University of Technology, and the degree will also be issued by Chalmers.

The research project, part of the EU funded BIOPTRAIN program, is in the area of integrative physiology, and it aims at bridging the gap between our knowledge at molecular/genome/cellular levels and our understanding of physiology and behaviour. Dementia and other degenerative diseases in the nervous system are examples of applications.

The eligible candidate will have a master's degree (or equivalent) with a background in one of the following areas: electrical engineering, computer science, physics, medicine, biology, or statistics. Knowledge of fundamental aspects of system identification and modelling is required. Previous knowledge of human physiology, statistics, or bioinformatics is desirable.

Fellow will be recruited under an employment contract and will benefit from travel and mobility allowances. Additional details about this highly prestigious position (in particular, salary and eligibility) can be found in the EST Handbook — see inset. Women in particular are invited to apply. If several applicants have approximately equivalent qualifications, EU rules on equal opportunities will be applied.

Applications should include your CV, a one-page statement of your research interests and motivations for pursuing Ph.D. studies, and contact information (including email addresses)for at least two references.

Please send your application preferably by email to: Kaj.LindecrantzAThb.se (AT=@) (using PDF or plain text for your attachments) or by surface mail to:
